6GN Workshop

Keynote 1: Employing 5G advanced and 6G in industry, advantages and challenges

Speaker: Seyed Mahdi Darroudi, Neutroon Technologies, Spain

Abstract: The 5th generation of cellular networks has facilitated novel and diverse use cases, particularly in industrial sectors, due to newly introduced features and enhanced performance parameters. The emergence of 5G has coincided with the popularity of concepts such as software-defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV). Apart from the technical advantages, these concepts have made private cellular networks more economically feasible for industrial applications. NFV has been particularly transformative, allowing smaller players in the network industry to contribute to the development and enrichment of the cellular network market.

Although 5G and 6G can theoretically satisfy the communication KPIs of the industrial sector, full integration of these technologies into the industrial environment remains a challenge. This challenge encompasses not only the integration of cellular networks with industrial IT networks, but also the collaboration with various industrial protocols.

This talk will provide a comprehensive overview of the opportunities and challenges associated with 5G and 6G implementation in industrial settings.

Bio: Seyed Mahdi Darroudi is PhD holder in Computer Networks from Polytechnic University of Catalunya (UPC).

He has +15 years of experience and research on different wireless network technologies like WiFi, LPWAN, LoRa, satellite communication and cellular networks, and +5 years of teaching experience.

Apart from publications, he is honored to contribute to the RFC 9159 standard. He has been peer reviewer for +10 well known highly rated journals and conferences.

He has been collaborating in many national and European projects like: Zero-Swarm, Target-X, 6GSmart, Open6G, 6G-Chronos, OpenCAMARA, Medivision5G, WINTERTIME, Aerial Inspection of electrical and oil & gas grids and cut costs with unmanned aircraft, ALLINONE, etc. He was recently founded by Torres Quevedo program to research on 5G/6G elements optimization employing AI/ML methods.

He is currently R&D manager in Neutroon which investigates 5G/beyond, toward 6G networks. His current scope of interest includes integrating edge processing and 5G/6G into industrial networks to satisfy Industry 4.0/5.0 requirements.
